On April 14, 1989, a dream became a reality, when Ken and Jennifer Sipkens opened their own business named Sipkens Nurseries.
We (Ken and Jennifer) have always had a passion for growing plants and have shared that passion with our children. Now all 5 children
share that passion and continue to carry on the business’ many facets.
In 1989, we purchased a 129 acre farm just outside Sarnia, Ontario. The first years were busy ones as we planted crops, started field and container growing and raised our young family. The first year we constructed a small 50’ production greenhouse on the property, and built a retail greenhouse in the spring while Ken kept working for another nursery as head grower. The next year Ken left his position, and we began devoting all of our time and energy into plant production, a retail garden center and landscaping design and installation service.
Seeing an opportunity, we began producing herbaceous perennials for the Ontario wholesale market which has been our signature crop since 1989.
Shortly after opening the garden center, the Sipkens family introduced our brand name “Palace Perennials” setting the new standard of branding with large colourful tags for the Ontario Market, and a few years later with banners and posters to help drive impulse sales.
The brand has continued to grow over the years to include over 1000 varieties of perennials in 9cm, 15cm and 2 gallon pots, as well as premium annuals, tropical plants, hardy vines, clematis, strawberry baskets, herbs, water plants, as well as innovative, retail packaging promoting Ontario Natives, Gardening Solutions, Backyard Edibles programs, and Pollinator, and Spring Sensation programs.
We add value with unique packaging, innovative marketing, and the highest quality plants, mostly grown start to finish, and delivered with exemplary service. We believe in helping our customers to be successful. We appreciate our many long term, relationships with our customers.
Over the years various opportunities rose to continue building more wholesale production greenhouses totaling 230,000 square feet of
gutter-connect greenhouses and cold-frames, 2 acres of field production, and a new modern 32,000 foot retail store with retail gutter-connect greenhouses.
Today we continue as an independent, family-owned and operated wholesale, retail and landscape company. Our team consists of expert growers, customer focused office staff, a committed team of managers, and over 50 team members.
